Everard Read is pleased to present FAITH XLVII's solo exhibition at the gallery.
CHANT asks: ‘How does one stand centred within the ceaseless onslaught of social, political and economic upheaval?’
We are living in the repetitive rhythmical momentum of history.
Caught within power structures and imbalances that restate themselves through every epoch.
Each generation passes down their collective experience, a form of monophonic rhythm, gathering momentum as we scramble to gather ourselves.
CHANT investigates our ability to deal with the insistent series of personal events, natural disasters and disruptive external situations.
Witnessing the collective reeling, it calls for us to find ways of healing the trauma within us.
We CHANT.
A ritualistic meditative call.
We assimilate this earthly drama through pitches of reciting tones, shades and textures.
Sacred attempts of setting a frequency for unlearning. Breaking open. Seeing.
A mantra.
