PRESS RELEASE
THE OTHER'S WARMTH
Dec 7, 2023 – Jan 3, 2024
THE OTHER’S WARMTH | GROUP EXHIBITION | 7 – 30 DECEMBER 2023
Cultural critic Maria Popova says: “To be human is to continually mistake our frames of reference for reality itself. We so readily forget that our vantage point is but a speck on the immense plane of possible perspectives. We so readily forget that there are infinitely many kinds of beautiful lives.”
The Other’s Warmth is a group exhibition at Everard Read Cape Town which delves into our connections with An(Other). Whether romantic, platonic, non-human, comfortable or troubling, or even a connection felt with ephemeral energies or impermanent ideas – all are of undeniable significance.
One can consider that at the core of art itself is a relationship – that between the artist and their viewer. This bond establishes the ability of art to transform us through awakening a generosity of understanding and empathy. Within the gallery’s final group show of 2023, the artists exhibited in The Other’s Warmth invite us to share their perspectives on the complexities, beauties and vagaries observed in the many conceivable connections with others.
