PRESS RELEASE

SASHA HARTSLIEF: Patterns of the Day
Sep 11 – Sep 27, 2025
Please join us for the opening of Patterns of the Day a solo exhibition by Sasha Hartslief.
Opening reception: Thursday 11th September - 6pm
In ‘Patterns of the Day’ l reflect on the rituals and routines that quietly shape our lives. The paintings trace how the quality of light – from morning brightness to evening lamplight – transforms the mood, meaning and atmosphere of our most familiar activities.
In solitude or in anticipation of company, preparing for the day or settling in at night, we find that light weaves through our daily lives, shifting the emotional tone and giving rise to endless subtleties of experience.

Passionate about drawing from an early age, Sasha Hartslief is largely self-taught. Her investigations into the human condition result in paintings that are emotionally charged, pensive in mood and considered in composition.
The transience of the captured moment is counterbalanced by the disciplined rigour of Hartslief's technique and painterly process. Each image becomes a formal study in light, contour and line. Like her Renaissance and Impressionist forebears, she employs everyday visual devices to explore the way in which atmospheric light and tonal modulations inform a surface, and to evoke atmospheres fraught with subtexts.
Since 1999, Hartslief has exhibited regularly at the Everard Read in South Africa and the UK, including several solo exhibitions. She continues to attract a broad collector base from around the world.
