BIOGRAPHY
WATER DIXON
Water Dixon is a Cape Town-based artist duo, Caitlin Warther and Wendy Dixon, founded in 2018. Their practice is a fusion of material innovation and intellectual exploration. The studio serves as both a creative sanctuary and a space for philosophical inquiry, where the boundaries between art, science, and spirituality are continuously interrogated. Water Dixon’s work, primarily composed of immersive mirror and light installations, engages with profound themes of time, identity, and the metaphysical nature of existence. Through the alchemical use of glass, brass, and chemically reactive surfaces, they cultivate perceptual phenomena that invite contemplation on the transient and the eternal.
Represented by distinguished galleries in Cape Town, London, New York, Beirut, and Istanbul, WATER DIXON’s work has been exhibited in premier institutions such as: Zeitz MOCAA, Spier Wine Estate, Nirox Sculpture Park, Shanghai Concert Hall, the Museum of African Art in Johannesburg, The Silo Hotel, and Iziko South African National Gallery. Their installations, steeped in both scientific rigor and philosophical reflection, call upon the viewer to engage in an intimate dialogue with the work, offering transformative experiences that challenge preconceived notions of perception and reality. The duo were on the 2026 Scape 100 List, which celebrates those shaping the worlds of design, architecture and interiors.
‘Our works are an invitation to a moment of reflection, where human perception collides with material artwork, revealing the immaterial layers of both the viewer and the object—essence, meaning, and pattern. In this space, both come alive, offering a deeper understanding of what lies beneath the surface.
‘Each piece strives to create an experience where time stretches and collapses, allowing viewers to engage with the eternal within the transient. Beauty is present not only to captivate but as a device of disarmament—creating somatic ease, openness, and recognition.
‘Wonder drives us, sparking curiosity and investigation. Each artwork is an experiment, a hypothesis exploring the relationship between light, shadow, time, and perception.
‘At its core, our works aim to fulfil a human need for existential belonging, offering a space that mitigates separation from life and the unfolding universe. Through our work, we aim to contribute to the lineage of creators who believe that art illuminates the known truths within the viewer, revealing the subtle rhythms and delicate layers of existence that have always been there, waiting to be felt.’
